[Q] Is Heimdall safe to use these days?

Hi, I see that the Heimdall project was last updated 2014 in their Github repo. Is is safe to use it for flashing devices released 2014+? I have a galaxy s6 edge and I only have access to OSX machines. I can try running Odin via Wine or Mono, but this will be scary :p Please let me know what can be used for flashing Samsung devices on OSX. I guess a virtual machine with Odin will work, but there was this thing that every time the device reboots I have to manually pass the usb device to the virtual machine in order to be recognized there, but when the device boots fast it is pain in the ass to catch the moment and not let the device boot into the OS. I am not sure if this is even an issue anymore as this is based on a past experience I had, so let me know what the current options are.
